Lorge`s solution is saving time, reducing the possibility of human error and ensuring processing audit trails in a critical area – the general ledger recording of transactions relating to the management of retirement funds and other investment vehicles, such as Portfolio Selections, at Ten50Six in Claremont.
“Ten50Six is using the SunGard OmniPlus retirement fund administration and trading system and required all transaction details to be transferred to its ACCPAC back office accounting program,” says Jaco Havenga, manager of Lorge Consulting`s Cape Town branch. “To do this, information from the OmniPlus system had to be exported, manipulated and then imported into ACCPAC, a practice that was resource intensive, time consuming and posed the risk of potential errors.”
Lorge was approached to find a solution to the problem and an Integration Manager software interface was developed to streamline the process. Havenga says the interface is positioned between the OmniPlus system and ACCPAC, automatically creating the trading information in ACCPAC format in accordance with specific, pre-defined user requirements.
“The interface has since been improved by incorporating additional controls and procedures for audit purposes. Overall, the program looks and feels like ACCPAC in every respect.”
Havenga says a key aspect of the success of the project was co-operation between the two companies in establishing an exact systems requirement for the interface program. The core of the specification revolved around the capacity to be independent of source system file formats. This information was then passed over to the Lorge Consulting development team, who wrote the software to meet the precise requirements of Ten50Six.
“As we are all accountants, we were able to grasp what Ten50Six was looking for. In turn, we were able to brief our development team accurately and precisely so that they fully understood what was required. The entire process took about eight months.
“Essentially it means that anyone using ACCPAC as a back office program with other specialist software products installed in the front office, can integrate that software with ACCPAC and reap the benefits of time saving and improved efficiencies.”
