South Africa’s leading private security company, ADT, has contracted mid-market ERP solutions provider Lorge to provide ongoing support for its Accpac system at the head offices in Sandton. The Accpac ERP 500 accounting software program being supported provides general ledger, cashbook, accounts receivable, accounts payable, inventory control, order entry, fixed assets and an inter-entity module that automatically splits and allocates shares of utility and other services or costs. This is done directly into Accpac and includes costs such as telephones, power, water, rent, rates, cleaning and maintenance across branches, divisions, departments, funds, projects, trusts or multiple companies within one Accpac database. Another feature of the system is the automatic transfer of billing information. An interface from ADT’s listener database to Accpac automatically transfers billing information into the debtors system using accounts receivable. Order entry and inventory control are used to book out equipment being used for new alarm installations. Vast numbers of entries need to be updated on month-end which could easily breach the 40 000 to 60 000 entries per day mark. This feature is also being modified to increase the speed of data download and transfer. A subsidiary of Tyco International, ADT constitutes South Africa’s largest armed response and security force with 335 000 customers. It operates nationally with regional data centers for its operations located in Johannesburg, Pretoria, Durban, Port Elizabeth and Cape Town. In addition to an in-house installation team, a nationwide network of dealers provides and installs ADT alarms and security systems, from basic entry-level units to more comprehensive systems with sophisticated technology.
Samsonite, the international leader in high-quality travel bags, luggage and accessories, recently opened a permanent office in Durban to service the South African market, and has contracted branded business and technology solutions provider and implementer Lorge to supply, install and commission an Accpac ERP 200 financial and accounting software system. Lorge ERP services manager Jurgens Snyman said the accounting system will provide general ledger, debtors, creditors, cashbook, inventory control and order entry as a standard chart of accounts. “However, the system implementation will connect to a Samsonite international centralized Citrix farm located in Belgium, allowing transfer of accounting and ERP data from South Africa into the group’s international SAP R3 system.” A well-known brand established for almost a century, Samsonite has expanded its rich design heritage and now markets products under the Samsonite, Samsonite Black Label, Samsonite OutLab, American Tourister, Lacoste and Timberland brands. “These are highly complementary brands that serve every segment of the market, reaching customers in all walks of life, all over the world,” said Thomas O’Flaherty, general manager of the South African Samsonite operation. “One of the group’s greatest assets is the brand portfolio. It includes some of the most trusted and highly recognised names in the global travel industry.”
Longstanding South African supplier and implementer of Sage ERP Accpac business solutions, Lorge, has been engaged by international engineering and construction company, Kentz Group, to assist with the worldwide standardization of its accounting and financial reporting systems. Lorge was originally contracted to install Sage ERP Accpac at Kentz’s South African headquarters, in Midrand, and has since rolled out the software to centers in Australia and Russia. The Sage ERP Accpac solution has been implemented in a way that ensures it will fully integrate with the existing bespoke procurement and cost control systems that have been designed and developed in-house at Kentz. Kentz is now planning a wider roll-out of Sage ERP Accpac across the group. “We are working with Lorge on this exciting project, which involves the implementation of the Sage ERP Accpac accounting software and the development of customized interfaces with our existing procurement and cost control systems across Kentz,” said Kentz Chief Financial Officer Ed Power. Power added that Kentz currently has offices in over 26 countries. “It is essential to have a program that is supported worldwide as we continue to grow our global footprint.” Keith Fenner, Softline Accpac VP Sales, Africa added: “The fact that a truly international organisation like Kentz has been prompted to roll out Sage ERP Accpac at its operations around the world, based on the experience and expertise demonstrated by a South African channel partner, is a feather in the cap for our organisation and the local industry.”
Electron takes charge through Lorge’s Accpac V6 accounting software solution Minimize Accounting and ERP software solutions specialist Lorge has completed the installation and commissioning of a Sage ERP Accpac V6 accounting application for electrical equipment, systems and services provider Electron Technologies at its Wynberg head office, in Johannesburg. Lorge’s Accpac solution replaced an Excel-based manual system that delivered job costing and revenue detail only and lacked the functionality to cater properly for the broad scope of Electron activity, procurement and projects involving a wide product range. Electron manufactures switchboards, distribution boards, PLC panels, mimic and control desks, and motor control centres, and offers automation, construction and solar solutions. “Included in the upgrade was a change of account code and restructuring of the general ledger, as well as the implementation of inventory control and full project job costing functionality. A Peresoft electronic funds transfer (EFT) module was also installed and commissioned for Electron,” said Lorge managing consultant Ana De Sousa.
Lorge, the Sage ERP Accpac accounting software solutions provider in the Logic Group, has been awarded an order by engineering specialist and process equipment supply company, Roymec Technologies, to install Sage ERP Accpac accounting software at their Woodmead headquarters in Sandton. The company is a process solutions provider that designs, engineers, builds and installs fit-for-purpose equipment for the industrial and mining sectors. Roymec Technologies has supplied equipment into 25 countries globally, including 12 in Africa. Major African projects undertaken include equipment supply to the gold industry in Mali and Mauritania, the coal sector in South Africa and Botswana, the copper and cobalt sectors in Zambia and Democratic Republic of Congo, the zinc sector in Namibia, the uranium sector in South Africa and Malawi, and most recently, to the base metals sector in Madagascar. Roymec supplies a range of owned and licensed solid liquid separation equipment including thickeners, linear screens, vacuum belt filters, filter presses, pin bed clarifiers, segmented tanks, flocculant and reagent plants and SX dual media filters. It has recently added the technologically upgraded disc and drum filter range from German company Bokela to meet the need of fine coal dewatering in the local coal and energy sector. The Sage ERP Accpac solution provided by Lorge focuses on project job-costing, allowing Roymec Technologies to analyse all projects and review actual costs against estimates for each project at any time during the implementation. Lorge managing consultant, Ana De Sousa, says the Sage ERP Accpac software had also been customized to meet Roymec Technologies’ needs, in terms of processes and project reporting. The solution was successfully implemented and is fully operational. “Process and project reporting is of great importance to Roymec Technologies,” says Softline Accpac sales director, Keith Fenner. “They set tough standards for the complex design and construction projects they take on, and the Sage ERP Accpac solution will play a key role in ensuring such a high degree of consistency and quality is maintained.” In business for over 10 years, Roymec Technologies has an in-house design office, works with approved fabricators to ensure stringent quality requirements and has a site team specializing in the supervision of installation and ultimately commissioning and optimization of the systems supplied.
