Lorge wins large financial software deal with MMC

[Johannesburg, 23 July 2002] Nelspruit-based Manganese Metal Company (MMC), the world`s largest single producer of high-purity electrolytic manganese, has awarded a R1.5 million financial software implementation and integration contract to accounting software solutions provider and leading ACCPAC reseller, Lorge Consulting.

Lorge, a Softline company, has been tasked with replacing an outdated and unsupportable legacy system with ACCPAC Financial software, and the integration of several software products, including SAP and VIP Payroll.

“The end result will be a single, transparent financial and project costing software solution that meets the unique needs of the MMC operation. MMC requires a fast-track implementation and we expect the software system to be operational within two months,” said Lorge Consulting managing director Stefan Coetzer.

MMC, which is owned by Samancor and Delta SA, operates high-technology manganese processing plants at both Nelspruit and Krugersdorp, annually producing some 44 000 tons of selenium-free manganese at a purity of 99.9%, most of which is exported all over the world.

Leon Arthur, MMC financial manager, said that apart from streamlining the company`s financial and project management systems, the software solution is expected to improve overall efficiencies and services within the company, thereby assisting to maintain the company`s competitive advantage in global markets.

A critical component of the overall system is the Integration Manager module developed locally by ACCtivity Software, Lorge`s development company. Integration Manager is an intuitive software tool that allows secure integration of data into the various components of an ACCPAC suite of accounting software modules.

“The Integration Manager package manages, processes, validates and tracks data provided by third party front end/operating systems for integration to and with other back-end accounting data, meeting the ongoing requirement from corporations for a powerful and reliable piece of middleware that simplifies integration with ACCPAC,” said Coetzer. “The integration is schedule-driven, which means that the integration can be on a real-time, daily, weekly or monthly basis.”

“It is the first and only tool of its kind to be developed in the official ACCPAC Software Development Kit, so users are assured of trouble-free operation combined with platform and database independence.”

Integration Manager exploits all of ACCPAC`s standard functionality such as data activation, security and multi-currency and ACCPAC modules, including General Ledger, Accounts Payable, ACCtivity Cashbook, Accounts Receivable and Inventory Control.

“The module will manage, process, validate and track data provided by the third-party systems for integration into ACCPAC. With all of these programs `talking` to each other, significant improvements in overall operational efficiency are anticipated,” concluded Coetzer.
